2023 Oscars Predictions:
Best Animated Short

“War is Over! Inspired by the Music of John & Yoko”
ElectroLeague

Weekly Commentary (Updated Jan. 22, 2024): Celebrating 100 years in Hollywood this past year, it’s hard to bet against Walt Disney‘s “Once Upon a Studio” and not feel like an assured inclusion in the category. What else will join the endeavor is up for grabs.

I’ve spoken with half a dozen AMPAS voters who love Tal Kantor’s “Letter to a Pig” and Bret Parker’s inspiring true story “Pete,” but it’s unclear how many voters typically take the time to watch all the movies and vote in this category.

And then there’s Oscar-winner David Mullins’ “War Is Over! Inspired by the Music of John & Yoko,” who successfully transforms “Happy Xmas” into a narrative endeavor.

“Humo (Smoke)” is the hail mary selection of the category, as one surprising contender can typically slip through.
