ACT man accused of maintaining fake dating profiles to prey on women

A man accused of maintaining numerous fake accounts on various online dating platforms has been charged over an indecent act on one woman during an organised meet-up.

But ACT police believe a number of women came across the 28-year-old and his allegedly fake accounts last year, and are now appealing for their assistance.

The man allegedly used a number of fake online dating accounts, with a fake name and images, between January 2023 and January 2024.

He used those accounts to engage with a number of women, one of which he met up with and “committed an act of indecency on,” ACT Police said.

“The man is alleged to have exchanged his mobile number and residential address with a woman under the guise of the fake identity as presented on his dating profile.”

The 28-year-old man has been charged with committing an act of indecency without consent.

“Police have already spoken to a number of people in relation to this matter, and are urging anyone who is yet to speak to police or who has information about this matter to come forward,” police said.

Police told 7NEWS. com.au it was believed his alleged activities were limited to the ACT.
