Central Government Official Denies Tesla Receiving Special Treatment in India

The Indian government has clarified that there will be no special treatment for Tesla in terms of incentives. Instead, the company can apply for existing schemes, such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for advanced chemistry cell (ACC) battery storage and the PLI scheme for automobiles, auto components, and drones. The government has allocated funds for these schemes to encourage domestic manufacturing and boost the electric vehicle industry in India. The government official stated that there is no plan to create separate policies for one company. Tesla has been urging for a reduction in import taxes on electric vehicles, but the government has been insisting on the establishment of a manufacturing facility in India. Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister, encouraged Tesla to manufacture and sell cars in India, promising the government’s support. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, expressed confidence in bringing Tesla to India. Last month, Tesla’s representatives met with members of various ministries in India. Tesla is a multinational corporation that specializes in electric automobiles, energy generation and storage systems, and related products and services.
