Instagram photos emerge from Mexico surf trip before Perth brothers Callum and Jake Robinson disappeared

New photos have emerged from the days before two Perth brothers disappeared while on a surfing trip in Mexico.

Three bodies have been found during the search for Callum, 33, and Jake Robinson, 30, who were travelling with their American friend, Jack Carter Rhoad, in the Baja California region, near the Mexican port city of Ensenada.

The alarm was raised after the trio failed to check in to their Airbnb accommodation in Rosarito.

The siblings also haven’t contacted their family since last Saturday.

Unearthed Instagram stories from Callum’s account include highlights from the group’s trip starting with one captioned ‘and it begins…’ and ending with a picture of the beach where the pair were reportedly last seen.

Three Mexican nationals have been taken into custody as police investigate the group’s disappearance, and a burnt-out Chevrolet Colorado matching one the Australians had been travelling in was found in a farm south of Ensenada.

One of their phones was also allegedly found in the hands of a 23-year-old woman who is now assisting police.

Baja California state chief prosecutor Maria Elena Andrade Ramirez would not confirm whether they were suspects or witnesses but said abandoned tents found by investigators linked them to the missing men.

Andrade Ramirez told a press conference in Mexico that “all lines of investigation remain open at the moment”.

“There is a lot of important information that we can’t make public.”

‘This breaks our heart’

Parents Martin and Debra Robinson said on Friday that they would head to the US and Mexico to be “as close as possible” to the area where their children were last seen.

“Callum and Jake are beautiful human beings. We love them so much and this breaks our heart,” they said in a statement.

They revealed the siblings had attended the Coachella music festival a week before they crossed into Mexico from San Diego, planning “to surf for a few days”.

“Surfing is a passion they both share. Our only comfort right now is that they were together doing something they passionately love,” the parents said.

“We ask people to keep them in their thoughts and prayers.”

There are particular concerns for Callum given he is a type one diabetic.

‘Concerning situation’

Anthony Albanese said Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade officials had been in contact with the family following the disappearance.

“This is a really concerning situation,” the prime minister told Sunrise on Friday. “Our embassy in Mexico is working with local authorities as well to try to ascertain what has happened here.”

While the Australian government places a lower risk on Baja California than nearby states such as Sinaloa, travellers are advised to exercise a high degree of caution “due to the threat of violent crime”.

Western Australia Premier Roger Cook said the situation was not “looking great”.

“This must be horrible for the Robinson family and for everyone in the community who knows those boys,” he said.
