Jasprit Bumrah makes stunning IPL comeback, registers new record

NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians’ (MI) ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah showcased his bowling prowess, steering his team to a commanding position against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, even though they ended up losing the match to the slightest of margins.
After missing out on the previous season due to injury, Bumrah seemed unfazed as he delivered a mesmerizing spell, restricting GT to a modest total of 168/6 in their allotted 20 overs. The 28-year-old speedster bagged three crucial wickets, conceding a mere 14 runs at an impressive economy rate of 3.50.
Bumrah’s stellar performance not only aided MI in containing the opposition but also etched his name in IPL history with a record-breaking 17 three-wicket hauls, the most by any player in the tournament’s history.
The standout moment came with a trademark yorker that dismantled GT’s batting order, sending Wriddhiman Saha, Sai Sudarshan, and the formidable David Miller back to the pavilion.

With this feat, Bumrah’s IPL career stats now boast 148 wickets from 121 matches, with an impressive average of 22.92 and a remarkable strike rate of 18.69. Just two more scalps will propel him to join the elite club of players with 150 IPL wickets, further solidifying his status as one of the premier fast bowlers in the league.

MI’s disciplined bowling effort, spearheaded by Bumrah, restricted GT’s batting lineup despite noteworthy contributions from Sai Sudharsan, skipper Shubman Gill, and Rahul Tewatia. As MI geared up for their chase, requiring 169 runs for victory, Bumrah’s heroics had set the stage for an enthralling encounter.
