IPL 2024 Retention Shocks

Mumbai: It was an action-packed day at the retention deadline of IPL 2024. While a lot of fans got clarity on a lot of players, there were some big players who were released as well. With the mini-auction coming up, these are the surprising releases that happened. The auction will take place next month in Dubai on December 19 where a lot of big names will go under the hammer. Some big names will also go under the hammer who were released yesterday at the retention deadline day. In this article, we will list out five big names that were released.

Josh Hazlewood: The Australian pacer has been the key for RCB last season where – on most occasions – he provided the early breakthrough which allowed RCB to control proceedings. He is accurate and a mean machine. He played two seasons for them and took 23 wickets in 15 games. He is apparently expecting a baby and was hence going to miss a month of IPL and that is the reason why he was released.

Umesh Yadav: The veteran pacer has been the key for the Knight Riders inside the powerplay as he picks early wickets. Given his knowledge of the Indian conditions, he was an asset and hence his release is a little surprising. It was his last season that may have led to his release. He picked up a solitary wickret in eight games in IPL 2023.

Wanindu Hasaranga: A wily leg-spinner and a T20 specialist, it was hard to believe Hasaranga was released by RCB. But one understands it is the Sri Lankan cricketer’s injury that has let him down.

Harry Brook: Considered to be the next big thing in the game, it is Brook’s consistency that has let him down. The English cricketer has been released by the Hyderabad franchise and this comes as a surprise because given that age is on his side – he could have been backed.
