This potato chips packet is worth ₹ 1,54,467 ; here’s why

Luxury comes in different shapes and sizes. But nowadays it comes in different flavours too. Wondering what and why? Well, at the recent green carpet of Met Gala 2024, we witnessed Balenciaga cheese and onion flavoured chip bags worn by actor Michael Shannen as an accessory and much to our surprise it is priced at a whopping ₹ 1,54,467.
As per reports, the bag, made to resemble a nearly empty bag of corn chips, is made from glossy calfskin and comes in three different flavours, er, colours; yellow for cheese and onion, red for chilli, and blue for salt and vinegar.
Early this year, in the month of January, the luxury brand Loui Vuitton also launched its sandwich bag which took the internet by storm. The bag, which was recognisable with Louis Vuitton lettering and a blue closure to keep sandwiches or any other valuables, was priced at ₹ 2,80,000. The piece went on sale on January 4 and is designed by the Men’s Creative Director of the French luxury fashion house Pharrell Williams. He has drawn inspiration from a classic paper sandwich bag for the design of the new accessory. The large clutch is made of cowhide leather “in exactly the same colour as the house’s famed (paper) shopping bags.”
It’s not the first time that a fashion label has appropriated everyday items and used them as market buzz. In 2017, a replica of the big blue Ikea bag was sold in the market for $2,847. Before that, many other things went viral on social media including the Dolce & Gabbana “Khaki Ski Mask Cap” that was sold for ₹ 32,000 and the Hugo Boss flip-flops were offered for ₹ 9,000 online.
